This Sunday, the skies above Cleveland’s Edgewater Park will transform into a colorful tapestry of soaring kites during the annual Cleveland Kite Festival. The event, hosted by the Ohio Society for the Elevation of Kites (OSEK), promises a weekend of fun, creativity and community spirit.

Whether you are a seasoned kite flyer or just starting out, there is something for everyone to enjoy. The event is from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Exciting Competitions and Games

One of the main highlights of Sunday’s festival is the Rokkaku Battle, where participants engage in thrilling aerial duels, aiming to keep their kites aloft while attempting to bring down their opponents.

Another competition is the Mystery Ballet, which includes both solo and pairs categories. In this event, kite flyers perform intricate maneuvers set to music they hear for the first time, showcasing their creativity and precision. The performances are judged on their synchronization and artistic expression.

Educational Activities and Workshops

Wind Sprints is meant for younger attendees and those new to kite flying. Participants learn the principles of kite flying. For example, you do not always need to run to get the kite into the sky.

OSEK also includes a variety of workshops suitable for all ages. These sessions cover everything from kite making to advanced flying techniques, ensuring that everyone can participate and learn something new.

Come and experience the magic of kites at the Cleveland Kite Festival.
